Created in the spirit of House of Dracula, House of Frankenstein and other films sporting multitudinous classic monsters, Monster Party is a disappointing side-scroller in which you'll spend way too much time walking up to enemies, hitting them with a bat, then running away, only to repeat the process two or three more times. Bosses are basically defeated the same way, though they require more hits. The ability to hit and return enemy fire helps relieve some of the monotony, as does the occasional turning into a monster. The storyline for the game makes some of Ed Wood's screenplays read like Shakespeare, and the gameplay never reaches the enjoyment levels of a good Saturday afternoon creature feature. The best thing about the game, other than the marginally good graphics, is the Famous Monsters of Filmland-like box art.
