It's clear Konami put a lot of time and effort into making Kings of the Beach play as close to a real volleyball game as possible on the NES. Each player on the screen is programmed to emulate the playing styles of '80s volleyball superstars Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos, and it's pretty obvious that these two pros had significant roles in helping create the game. Along with bumping, spiking and setting, both competition modes require a variety of volleyball skills and maneuvers including blocking, diving, serving and feinting (deceptive spiking).
