While not as electrifying or as fast-paced as Double Dribble, Hoops is one of the better 8-bit basketball games. It's loaded with options and features -- not only can you play one-on-one or two-on-two, but you can also take part in an enjoyable game of Around the World. Another nice feature is the ability to choose from four different characters, each distinctive, nicely drawn and smoothly animated. The biggest flaw is that it's too easy to steal the ball or have it stolen from you, especially when trying to go in for a dunk. With its good controls and attractive visuals, Hoops is a solid, good-looking game that does a fine job of bringing playground basketball to your living room.
